On July 1, 2019, Dr. John Aye purchased the dental practice from Dr. McFarland. McFarland Family Dentistry was created in 1993, when Dr. Garret McFarland and his wife decided to live and raise their family in Miles City. In 2007, Dr. McFarland and his staff moved into the newly constructed office at 520 Main Street. Our office has six operatories, which has allowed our practice to grow over the years. In addition to Dr. Aye, we have three hygienists, and two dental assistants on our patient care team which has given us the ability to efficiently care for several patients at the same time. Our schedule includes morning and afternoon appointments, Monday through Thursday.

  • John Aye

    GENERAL DENTIST

    Dr. John Aye was born and raised in Miles City. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Cell Biology and Neuroscience and a minor in Business Administration from Montana State University. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado with his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Dr. Aye's favorite part of dentistry is being able to provide services to the residents of his hometown and the surrounding area. John and his wife, Kelsey, are excited to be back in Miles City and look forward to being active members of the community. In his free time he enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing, and traveling.

  • Shannon Smith

    DENTAL HYGIENIST

    Shannon Smith was raised on a ranch NW of Jordan, Montana. She attended Sheridan College and graduated in 1999. She moved to Miles City to join our dental team immediately following her college graduation. She has 3 children. Shannon enjoys spending time with family and friends, outside (when it's warm), kids sporting events, traveling and reading. "I love my job. I have no regrets choosing Dental Hygiene as my career. I especially love the personal patient relationships that I have developed over the years, while providing a service."

  • Tammie McFarland

    DENTAL HYGIENIST

    Tammie was raised in Winifred, MT and attended Dental Hygiene school at Carroll College in Helena, MT. After graduating in 1988, she moved with her husband, Dr. Garret McFarland, to Minnesota and practiced dental hygiene while he attended dental school. They moved to Miles City in 1993 and opened their own dental practice together. They have a son, William, who is an accountant. She helps with community activities at church as well as blood drives, charities, etc. Tammie loves traveling with friends and family. "Dental Hygiene was my career choice at the age of 16 and, after 30 years, I can honestly say I love every single day at work. Interacting with patients and treating their dental needs is exactly what I feel I was meant to do through my life. Miles City has been a wonderful home to raise our family and has provided the blessing of lifelong friends."

  • Abbie Herzog

    DENTAL HYGIENIST

    Abbie is a Miles City native and graduated from Custer County District High School in 2016. She attended Sheridan College and received her Bachelors of Science in Dental Hygiene through the University of Wyoming. Abbie was a dental hygiene assistant in the summer of 2018, and officially joined our team as a Dental Hygienist in June of 2019. She spends her free time with her husband, Ben, on the ranch and chasing their kids. Abbie's favorite aspect of dental hygiene is creating new relationships and building trust with her patients.

  • Jena Walker

    DENTAL ASSISTANT

    Jena grew up here in Miles City, MT from a family of 7 and graduated from CCDHS in 2011. She received her Associates of Science degree through Montana Tech in Butte. Her husband Nelson and two sons Kale (10) Karter (3) love spending time together traveling for baseball and hockey. "I've been in the dental field for the last couple years, and enjoy connecting with the patients and helping. I love my job and have the best crew to work with!"

  • Michelle Hirsch

    DENTAL ASSISTANT

    Michelle was born and raised in Miles City. Michelle attended MCC and completed her certificate of Radiation Health and Safety. She is married and has 2 children. She has been working as a Dental Assistant for our dental team since 2011. She enjoys spending time with family, being outdoors, working in the yard, and following her kids with all of their sports. "I love my job, the people I work with, and working with our patients."

  • Holly Brockway

    FRONT DESK ADMINISTRATOR

    Holly was born and raised in Miles City. She attended Miles Community College in 2004 and received her Associates of Science degree, then moved onto MSU-Billings in 2006 for a couple semesters. Billings is where she met her husband in 2011 and shortly moved back to Miles City where they are raising their two boys. She worked at Holy Rosary in multiple departments for 10 years. She enjoys spending time with her boys, being outdoors, crafting and sip-n-paints. Holly has always enjoyed the medical environment and working with patients.
